I came home from work the other day to find a perfectly set dinner table and a couple of goofy grins in the kitchen. One was familiar: the grand schemer. The other was here on a visit: the master chef.
These two spent half the afternoon grocery shopping and preparing a surprise dinner, even sending me on a grocery store run on my way home to throw me off.
I was handed an aperitif and a caprese toast after I got over my initial shock. From there, I pretended I was Julia Child, watching Jacques Pepin do all the work in my kitchen.
Dinner was veal saltimbocca and sage risotto. It was delicious, and even moreso for the thought and preparation that went into it. Such a nice little evening.
