Reading
I've not made much time for reading lately, so I'm nodding off after a few pages each night of The Hate U Give. I was also happy to get Bryan Ford's debut cookbook, New World Sourdough (pictured above), which was released in June and has been backordered for months, from my library. Libraries are amazing. The recipes look excellent but they require a lot of plotting, i.e., figuring out when to start the process so that you're not baking a loaf of bread at 4 a.m.
Watching
We finished season 7 of Frasier, everyone. That's the one that ends with a real climax in the Daphne and Niles plotline. I'm not sure it ever recovers but we'll continue on to season 8 and find out. It's when I mostly stopped watching the first time around because that's when I went to college and didn't have a TV.
Much to Joel's surprise I opted to watch a sports documentary on Friday night. It was The Last Dance, about Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. I'm definitely not a sports person but I did care about that athlete and that team for a spell in my childhood, mostly because my best friend was obsessed and I found that watching basketball was actually pretty exciting, especially when the Bulls were playing.
Making
I finished sock #1! And also my Akita top.
I'm really drawn to bold colors right now, but I'm sensing a need to get some sort of wardrobe design in order to maximize my pieces and make sure they play together well.
Recipes
I'm hitting a slump with making food. I just want snack dinners and cereal for breakfast. But I rallied this week and made a new recipe for anchovy salmon (it sounds questionable but I assure you it is nothing but savory) with chive butter from Melissa Clark's Dinner: Changing the Game.
And another thing that brightened our week was another round of Rice Krispies Treats, with the genius additions of pretzels and chocolate chunks. Recipe from the New York Times.
Listening
Marty Robbins' greatest hits hit the spot one night this week, and "El Paso" has been in my head frequently ever since. I also enjoyed listening to Linda Diaz's "Green Tea Ice Cream," which won NPR's Tiny Desk Concert contest this past week.
Don't tell anybody, but I had a hard time getting into The Hate you Give, even listening to it on Audible. I gave up on that one. Also - I follow that sourdough author on Instagram and have been considering buying that book! He has the most gorgeous sourdough croissant pics.
ReplyDeleteHa, I won't tell! I understand - nothing in the book feels surprising nor untrue. Events play out exactly how you think they will, because this is happening all the time. But I like reading it from the perspective of a 16-year-old.
