Week 24

My daily routine was a comfort to me this week, and I felt grateful to have workdays without many meetings. I moved my body more, I continued my knitting, I felt inspired in the kitchen. I even bought a new summery dress that arrived on Saturday and it fit perfectly. I also got a sling chair for the backyard for some future day when I can lounge for an hour with a book and cocktail on the lawn. I set it up in the living room and am hopeful that the forecast for warmer weather later next week holds. There's a box on the floor with outdoor string lights that we'll be setting up back there at some point, too. AND, I got an appointment with my hair stylist for July 14, a Bastille Day cut and color. There is hope for summer!

It was a pretty OK week, but I didn't take many pictures, and I don't really feel like writing much. But here's a quick list of a few good things:

1. Take six minutes to listen to Kimberly Jones.

2. If you have Hulu, or if you're willing to pay $3.99 to rent on Prime or YouTube, I highly recommend If Beale Street Could Talk.

3. A goal this week is to share the recipe for this apple dessert I got from my mom's cookbook. It is so good. I might also share the recipe for the cinnamon ice cream I'm about to churn to go with it. It's been a decadent weekend.

4. My dear friend Mary has a podcast called "Tiny Reminders," which features young voices sharing their experiences. This week's features Amariae, a 16-year-old, reflecting on the Black Lives Matter movement and empathy.

5. Joel and I recently became curious about how dogwood got its name, mostly because our first theory was it was because the petals are like puppy ears. I looked it up and feel like I'm an expert on this subject now. Ask me sometime. And yes, there is a connection to hot dogs.
