MADE: Weekender Sweater

At some point in the last year or so, I made a promise to myself that I would not buy another gray sweater or top. I am so drawn to gray clothing because it goes with everything else. I am frustrated by black, navy and brown because they don't always play together or with other colors. Gray, though: it always works. As a result, my closet and drawers are full of gray. Thus my resolution.

A loophole I opened, however, was allowing myself to make gray clothing. You can see I've already gone this route in my recent sewing. And now, with this sweater, I've done it again. I like what I like, OK?

The Weekender sweater was designed by Andrea Mowry, a name I've come across many times through Brooklyn Tweed, and whose patterns I've bookmarked on Ravely often (for example...).

#roadknitting (en route to Spokane from Boise with this sweater)
This pattern knit up quickly, and I probably could've finished this in August weeks after I started it. I took my time, though, and enjoyed the process each time I picked it back up. You knit it from the bottom up and the main body is all purl stitching, which looks casual but kind of special, especially with the vertical row of knit stitches down the front and the back. I love the boat neck style, and the ribbed detail that extends past the shoulder is fun. I also love the split hem. Plus I learned a new way to cast on.

The yarn I used  (Kenzie by Hikoo) is 50% merino with angora, nylon, alpaca and silk. You can't see it in the photo but there are tiny black speckles. It sheds a tiny bit (thanks to the angora) but it is soft and super warm for being somewhat lightweight.

And yes, it's gray, and I have worn it three times already in the first week.

Please Luna, DO NOT SNAG THIS SWEATER
