Bough hat

I lost my favorite hat on the bus last spring and have been in dire need of something warm to plop on my head on cold and/or bad-hair days. The latest Brooklyn Tweed "Wool People" catalogue featured this beautiful pattern, so I nabbed it and whipped this thing up in a few sessions. It also came with an accompanying cowl pattern which I'd love to make at some point, too.

As patterns go, it was extremely satisfying. I got to try new techniques, namely the stitches that create the branch pattern. I used Cascade Pacific yarn, which I've been using for all my slippers, too. It's soft and provides a really nice texture for this hat. Though I'd love to use Brooklyn Tweed's yarn someday...when I'm rich. (This reminds me of my college roommate, Laura - we often spoke of the luxuries we envisioned for ourselves post college, followed those lists with a dramatic pause, and sang, "When I'm ri-ich" like the cheesy jazz singers we were.) It fits great, too. I haven't taken it off much since putting it on.

You can buy the pattern here.
